Beauty and The Beast – A Natural Shampoo Story.
How much thought did you put into your favorite shampoo? Now how much thought did you put into your pet’s shampoo? I can honestly say for myself that it was very little. This past week I had the chance to try out Reliq Pet’s Mineral Spa Shampoo for Dogs. On paper this product is pretty cool. Some of the highlights are:
- Its all natural. I really like that.
- Its gentle and has an easy rinse formula. Another plus in my book.
- Promotes healthy coat, moisturizes and softens your pets skin.
- Long lasting odor control. Now who doesn’t love a good smelling pup?
No one can argue that all of these things are what pets owners want from their dog’s shampoo, but does Reliq deliver on it’s promise as an all natural shampoo that is gentle and controls odor? I give you a resounding yes! This shampoo is thick and rich in your hand. I love the idea of the easy rinse formula because I am a bit OCD with making sure my guys are foamed up and scrubbed clean.
My littlest, Iggy, isn’t crazy about the whole bath thing. If I take too long to lather and rinse he will become a parana and try to bite me. I am not kidding. Reliq Mineral Spa Shampoo worked beautifully. I felt like I got Iggy very clean with all traces of shampoo rinsed from his coat in record time.
The moisturizing and softening of my pet’s skin is important because we live in a very dry climate and my older pup Oliver has dandruff. I figured his coat would give this product a real challenge. It has been over a week now and his dandruff has not shown back up yet and that was with only one use. Oliver was also my test for the odor control factor. He is my dirtiest pup by far because he loves to hang outside in the sunshine. Moving from flower bed to flower bed and regularly happy dancing in the grass, rolling in whatever delicious odor he might find. He tends to get an outdoor kind of sweaty smell. So far this has not reappeared since he was bathed with the Reliq shampoo. I know that his smell will return but it is great to know that his fresh clean scent will last longer then it has in the past :).
Reliq’s Mineral Spa Shampoo for Dogs also states that its natural minerals have a healing factor that relieves most common skin irritations. We are fortunate that our tribe doesn’t have any major issues but my daughter’s dog Bianca does. With this in mind I had my daughter give the shampoo a try on Bianca as well as her little guy Ragnar. My daughter bathes her dogs at least once a week due to Bianca’s skin issues and Ragnar’s adventuresome spirit. You can read that to mean Ragnar gets himself really dirty! My daughter was thrilled with the results of her testing. Right off the bat she could see that her dogs looked cleaner. She loved the fact that it cleaned with one application not two or three. Ragnar is all white and his coat comes out beautiful. A green mark that his collar makes around his neck was completely gone. The other day he somehow got black stuff all over himself. He looked like a Dalmatian. One wash and he was a lovely white again.
After a couple of washes and Bianca wasn’t chewing at her toes any more. As a puppy mill survivor, Bianca is prone to yeast infections between her toes but also gets an allergic reaction to grass. Keeping those things under control is part of the reason Bianca is bathed so often. The toe chewing and irritation between her toes has remained at bay as of this writing. To be honest all the other benefits of this shampoo are wonderful but helping Bianca overcome some of the issues she has is at the top of the list.
Reliq Pet states that it uses molecular science to solve problems. Reliq shampoo uses technology to break down the essential ingredients allowing it to cling and absorb into your pets skin helping to moisturize and condition, not dry out or irritate because it contains no chlorine, alcohol or paraben. The natural ingredients promote a healthy coat while killing odors. Reliq does not use heavy or unhealthy fragrances. We tested with their Pomegranate scent but they also have Rosemary, Lavender, Jasmine and Green Tea lightly infused scents that will last approximately 4 to 7 days while the odor control continues for 2 to 3 weeks.
Reliq also sent us a bottle of their Advanced Ear Solution for Dogs and Cats, an all natural product to help clean your pets ears. It’s completely free of enzymes, alcohol, paraben and fragrances. It is a blend of water, Nano-enhanced Minerals, witch hazel extract and calendula silvestre extract. It works to dissolve the wax buildup in your pet’s ear that can lead to odor and ear infections. My pups don’t have ear issues so I can’t comment on any healing, but it was easy to use and left their ears squeaky clean.
