One Good Thing – My Tribe Makes Me Laugh!
So this is my first “One Good Thing” post. I came across this idea from another blogger, her name is Jill Nystul and she writes the blog “One Good Thing By Jillee”. The concept is simple, find one good thing each day and write about it. I would like to think that I am disciplined enough to do this each day, but I know myself well enough to know that’s not gonna happen. 🙂 I will try to incorporate it as often as possible though. I want to try and focus on things in my life that make me happy, thankful, mindful, etc. I think a “One Good Thing” post is a great avenue to share those things with you. I hope you agree.
My “One Good Thing” is my tribe. They make me laugh. My tribe is made up of three Chihuahuas and two mixed breed cats. Each one has a very distinct personality and regularly do things that make me laugh. I’ll start with our cat Stanley. He is just shy of 15 years old and is king of our household. At his advanced age Stanley sleeps A LOT!! But when he wakes up he always has a bit of a hitch to his giddy up. He jumps down off the couch and starts walking to his food bowl when suddenly he just throws out his right leg and gives it a shake. This action makes me smile but becomes really funny when my 24 year old son comes into the room and mimics Stanley’s hitch. You have to see it to completely understand it.
Sophie is our little girl cat. She is 11 years old and likes to do what we call drive-bys. She doesn’t hang out with us like Stanley and the Chihuahuas, but will come into the family room for a quick moment of attention. During the drive-by she becomes very vocal. Its like she is talking to us. One of us usually meows back at her and we end up having some sort of weird conversation with her. It reminds me of when you have conversations with babies that don’t really speak yet but will talk up a storm with you.
Oliver is our 14 year old Chihuahua and the Rocket Dog namesake. He only has 5 teeth left so his mouth has that little old man look and he tongue sometimes sticks out. He is adorable! He does a number of things that make me smile or giggle every day. He will be sitting in the middle of the floor just watching everything around him while sitting with one leg slightly up in the air. When you approach him to pick him up, he falls over and wants his tummy rubbed. And every time he gets out of his bed he has to stretch out his back legs and pull himself out of the bed. We call it froggy legs or yoga legs. Oliver also gets very excited when our son comes home. It doesn’t matter if he has been gone for a few minutes or a few days he is SOOOOOOO happy that he is home and races to meet him at the door along with an excited bounce as he follows him into the room. This excitement may also be because Harrison used to bring home french fries and happened to share them with Oliver, but Harrison likes to think its because Oliver loves him. 🙂
Percy is my baby! He is our 10 year old Chihuahua and is a mama’s boy. If I leave the room for even just a minute he will come and find me. If I put on the right clothes he gets all excited because he knows we are going out for a walk. He will jump around in circles and starts talking. If we place the TV remote to close to him he freaks out. For some reason it scares him. If something gets in his bed that he doesn’t want, like a treat he doesn’t like, he will push it out of the bed with his nose or try and cover it up with his blanket. When Percy tries to beg for a treat instead of getting all cute he goes for the pathetic look. He will let his big brown eyes go all squinty and he will begin to tremble. Not just a little bit either we are talking full blown shacking and squinting. It is so pathetic it is funny.
Last but not least is our little Iggy. Everything this 9 year old, chubby Chihuahua does makes me smile or laugh. When he is excited he actually smiles. Because he is only about 8 inches tall and shaped like a turkey roll he toddles when he walks. It is the cutest walk with such confidence but he is just a little guy. Iggy adores my husband and looks forward to sitting with him at night to get pets. He will sit on my husband’s lap and then literally fall over or what we call “thunks” over onto Kerry’s chest to get him to pet him. When it is bedtime, all of the Chihuahuas run up to our room and wait for us to crawl into bed. Iggy refuses to get into his bed until he is given a treat. He will sit in Oliver’s bed which is directly across from his bed and wait until I get a treat out of the bag. When I have the treat he will immediately jump into his own bed and give me a cute, happy smile with his little curly tall wagging. Iggy also has an interesting relationship with my son. He loves Harrison but every time Harrison comes into the family room Iggy perks up and is in fight mode. He takes on this “bring it ” attitude for Harrison and waits for him to play with him. It is funny because it happens every time, no exceptions.
All five members of my tribe make up “One Good Thing” for me. My tribe makes me very happy and they bring a smile and a laugh everyday. A “One Good Thing” should be simple. What is yours? I love to hear from you so please share in the comments below.
This is so perfect! We really do all need to remember to think of one good thing each day. I am constantly laughing and playing with my dogs and cats. Their personalities are so much fun to watch and be around!
Thank you! Pups and felines can always brighten your day with their antics. Sometimes it is hard to remember to think of a good thing each day but it definitely can change your perspective on things.
