The Best Doggone Ramp – A Review!
It is no secret that I spoil my tribe. They have a truckload of fleece blankets to keep them cozy in various holiday designs. 🙂 They are chunky monkeys because I cannot resist their adorable big brown eyes. They have car seats in the back of my car so that they are safe AND can see out of the windows. You get the idea. So when I saw this product I knew it was something we needed for the Chihuahua crew.
Let me introduce you to the PawRamp from Alpha Paw! This pet ramp has been a lifesaver or should I say a back, leg, and knee saver. I bought our first ramp back in February of 2020 for the family room. The ramp is placed on the end of our sofa so that the little ones can climb up and down as they please. Yes, we allow our dogs on our sofas. When your legs are only six inches long jumping up on a couch is impossible, and jumping down can be dangerous. Both of these are made even more hazardous because we have hardwood floors. So they are slick and have no cushion for knees and backs.
Our tribe loves their PawRamp! So much so six months later I bought them a second ramp for our bedroom. They were using a makeshift set of platforms that we had made out of ottomans. They had a small ottoman in front of a medium ottoman that allowed them to hop up onto the bed. And again yes we allow our animals up on the bed with us. This structure was working ok but wasn’t the most steady and with our pups getting older the jump up to the smallest ottoman was getting more difficult. The PawRamp has been awesome! We have a king size bed and it is quite tall so my husband built a wooden platform that the ramp butts up to and then they can get on the bed from there.
We love the PawRamp because it is so simple yet has some great features:
- It is made from sturdy wood planks, not plastic.
- It can be used on sofas, chairs, beds, etc.
- It folds down to 3 1/2 inches for easy storage.
- It is portable.
- It is adjustable! The “Full” size has four heights 12, 16, 20, and 24 inches. The “Lite” size has two heights 12 and 16 inches
- It is built for little pups and for larger pups. The “Full” size is up to 80lbs and the “Lite” size is up to 70lbs.
- It has ridged carpet for a “no slip” grip.
- It is handmade and arrives fully assembled and ready to use!
When we received our first PawRamp we had to work with our Chihuahuas to train them to use it but that was really easy. Fortunately, our boys are VERY food driven so a handful of treats and they were running up and down the ramp in about 15 minutes. Even though they had been using the ramp in the family room every day we had to go through the training again when we bought the ramp for the bedroom. But we had the same results – a handful of treats and about 15 minutes. I think it was a scam just to get more treats. 🙂
Many dogs and cats suffer jumping injuries when they are getting on and off of furniture. Injuries can also happen if your pet slips on hard surface floors. This becomes even more likely as your pet gets older. Our old man cat Stanley is 18 years old this month. He is struggling with his hips and back from 18 years of jumping up and down on things as cats do. Stanley uses the PawRamps just like the dogs do. You can tell that he has realized how much easier it is on his old body. Overall I love the PawRamp and would highly recommend them to anyone. They are an awesome investment for the long term health of your furry tribe.
